Papaya

The Papaya or the "pawpaw" is a native of south America, with wax like flowers that mature into fruit. The Papaya comes in three sexes: hermaphrodite, female, and male. The male never produces fruit, only pollen. The female only produces tiny fruit that cant be consumed, unless it is pollinated by the male. The hermaphrodite can pollinate itself since its flowers contain both male and female components. The Papaya is now ranked number three in popularity of tropical fruits worlwide, only to be beat by the Mango and Pineapple. The "Sunrise" and "Caribean Red" are the most popular in the USA. It has many uses from a meat tenderizer to a jelly. it is also delicious raw, wich is usually how it is consumed.
